The Worcestershire Junior Law Division (WJLD) was formed to support the interests of students, paralegals, trainees, and solicitors across Worcestershire. Our aim is to create a dedicated community throughout the county to support junior legal professionals through the early stages of their career. Membership is free. The WJLD provides its members with an opportunity to network and connect with other junior lawyers in the local area, and for its members to discuss their career progression from student through to solicitor. The WJLD recently co-hosted a Career Development and Newly Qualified Seminar with BCL Legal to provide advice on career development opportunities and helping law students, paralegals and trainees through the journey from a training contract to securing a solicitor role.
The WJLD runs a variety of different events throughout the year. These vary from seminars with barrister chambers, informative nights, social evenings and an annual quiz night. The WJLD also holds career development socials with local recruitment companies to assist junior lawyers in their career path to qualification. Socials are open to all junior lawyers including students, paralegals, trainees and solicitors up to five years PQE from all local law firms. A variety of regional firms and law students frequently attend WJLD events.? The WJLD participates in WLS social events including their annual quiz night and joint summer party.
“The WJLD is a fantastic platform to meet like-minded individuals. It provides an invaluable support network which I personally found incredibly helpful when I started my training contract in a new city and which has resulted in some great friendships. We have a lot of fun during the year with our various events whether it is our career development seminar, competitive quiz night or charity fundraiser. Our main purpose is to promote the local legal community together with the WLS and support the junior members, something I am extremely passionate about” Hailey Nip, Chair of the WJLD
The City of Worcester, as well providing a home to the beautiful Cathedral, Worcestershire cricket, rugby and football clubs, River Severn and host of cocktails bars and eateries, is home to the University of Worcester and Heart of Worcestershire College. Both institutions offer legal courses to students wanting to pursue a career in law and provide help, support and guidance. There are a number of prominent law firms which are all located within easy walking distance of the city centre. Law firms in the area support and encourage their junior legal professionals to be actively involved in the WJLD in order to raise the individuals profile in the local area. Career Development Programmes, vacation schemes and training contracts are offered by most firms.
For more information contact any member of the WJLD committee: details can be found here. Alternatively, visit the Law Society website to search for local law firms in the area.
