Sussex Junior Lawyers Division
May 03, 2019

Sussex Junior Lawyers Division has promoted the needs of junior lawyers in the county for several years. The newly-elected committee is dedicated to supporting local lawyers embarking on their careers by hosting social, networking and educational events throughout the year. Membership is free and is open to law students, paralegals, legal executives, trainees and qualified solicitors up to 5 years PQE.
Sussex JLD frequently hosts events with a focus on career development including our recent seminar on “Using social media for career development.” Practical skills can be acquired by attending our educational events including presentations from local barristers at chambers.
The legal economy in Sussex consists of high-street and regional firms and there is a wide array of practice areas affording budding lawyers a variety of employment opportunities.
Members have the opportunity to socialise with other local junior lawyers at events including networking drinks, charity quiz nights and Christmas Drinks.
The division works closely with the Sussex Law Society, local Young Professional groups, East Sussex Young Resolution, Brighton & Hove CILEX and local Chambers. Close ties are also maintained with the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex.
“Joining Sussex JLD is a great way to make connections with other legal professionals in the area. Everyone I have met has been friendly and keen to support me with my search for a training contract.”
From rolling hills to bustling market towns, the South Downs National Park’s landscapes cover 1,600km2 of breath-taking views and hidden gems. Discover the white cliffs of Seven Sisters, rolling farmland, ancient woodland and lowland heaths or enjoy our ‘picture perfect’ villages, traditional country pubs or flourishing vineyards.
An hour from London, Brighton and Hove is one of the country’s most vibrant cities, as befits its nickname of “London-By-The-Sea”. Discover Brighton attractions such as the Brighton Palace Pier, the Royal Pavilion and the brand new British Airways i360. The city is also home to a cornucopia of cultural delights as well as big name shops, hundreds of independent boutiques and many award-winning restaurants.
