South Essex JLD

May 03, 2019

We are the South Essex Junior Lawyers Division (SEJLD). Our committee strives to arrange and host a carefully balanced mix of educational and social events in the local area. Together, we provide a platform for the area’s budding lawyers; an opportunity to network, meet like-minded people and even learn about different practice areas.

SEJLD hold events throughout the year, some of which focus on career development. For example, we are in touch with the judges in the area and have, in the past, arranged for the district judges to present to our members on the nature and day-to-day life of working in litigious roles. South Essex mainly consists of high-street and regional firms and there is a wide array of practice areas.

SEJLD runs a number of its own social events throughout the year. In the past these have included wine and cheese nights, evenings with local legal recruitment specialists and cocktail making classes. We have an annual summer event - in 2018, this will be a boat party on the Thames, on 4th August. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket please let us know.

Our first tip for any junior lawyer moving to the area would be to join us! We can assist you in attending networking events and meeting like-minded professionals. Please contact us and we can point you in the right direction of certain events and attend them with you.

You should also look to join the Young Professional Group (YPG) in your area. YPG arrange social events for young professionals in the area. For example, Chelmsford YPG recently organised an event at Chelmsford Races.

"Never give up in your aspirations to join the profession."

"You learn more from failure than you do success"

"I have enjoyed having the opportunity to meet new people at JLD events who have since become friends"

South Essex has the longest pier in the world, along with a variety of beaches to satisfy your fish and chip cravings on weekends! You’ll never be too far away from London living and working here, which means you’ll have ample opportunity to experience the capital as well as a good few work opportunities too.
