Based in the heart of Southampton’s vibrant City Centre, Solent Law School has professional legal practice at its core. Our new dedicated Solent Courtroom offers the chance to build experience and confidence in an authentic legal setting – and our recent ground-breaking partnership with the College of Legal Practice means a preparation course for the first part of the Solicitors Qualification Examination (SQE) is built into your degree, giving you a real head start if you’re considering becoming a solicitor.

Taught by experts informed by research or strong links to the legal profession, the course gives you numerous opportunities for engaging with national and regional law firms and employers to develop your own professional network. Our regular Law Careers Spotlight sessions give you opportunity to rub shoulders with managing partners, solicitors, lawyers, and HR professions and engage in simulated, practical and real-world scenarios to enhance your understanding of the legal sector.

The course team’s practical expertise and open-door policy ensure you will be well supported academically – while the university’s dedicated support services offer plenty of help with any other pastoral aspects of student life.

Incorporating both theory and practice – you’ll become a Solent Alumni understanding legal processes and the fast-changing legal environment. You will be encouraged not only to develop habits of lifelong learning, but also to develop the professional awareness and personal attributes to effectively continue your development as a professional long after you graduate.

Specialist legal facilities

The University’s new courtroom offers an authentic environment for legal argument, while our extensive library of legal journals, case law and online materials are an essential resource.

An extensive network of professional connections

Various placement opportunities are available to you – both as a year-long option and as part of a final year module. These allow you to engage with live clients in a pro bono legal setting and put the skills you have learnt into practice. Our masterclasses ensure you are at the cutting edge of legal developments, while the School’s mooting and advocacy team ensure you know exactly what is required of you in a courtroom setting.

Tailored to the requirements of professional bodies

The course meets Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board requirements and is designed to prepare students for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).
