Training Contract

Life as a Kennedys trainee

Our two-year training contract allows you to develop relevant experience and skills that will set you up in your career as an excellent solicitor. During your training contract, you’ll complete four six-month seats across our core practice areas of Insurance and Reinsurance, Liability and Commercial. We also offer exciting secondment opportunities to global offices and UK clients.

You will be given a good level of responsibility early on, dealing with varied areas of work and will be a valued member of the team from the start, working alongside experienced solicitors and partners in a relaxed and open plan environment.

Before starting your training contract, we ask our future trainees to attend the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and where applicable the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) at BPP. We will fund your course fees for the LPC and PGDL and provide a maintenance grant during these study periods.  For those undertaking their training in our Edinburgh office we will fund the Diploma in Law and provide a maintenance grant.

Training Contracts for 2023 now open - deadline 31 December 2021.

Apprentices

We are passionate about offering an alternative route to University and are proud to be a UK government accredited organisation. Our apprenticeships are designed to help springboard you into a successful career by providing you with a mixture of studying and learning within the workplace so you can earn while you learn.

We are the proud winners of the ‘Best Degree Apprenticeship’ award at the 2019 UK School Leaver Awards, and ‘Top Employer in Law’ award at both the 2018 and 2017 UK School Leaver Awards.

Our two year paralegal apprenticeship will result in the Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Services, which is equivalent to the first year of a law undergraduate degree. The paralegal apprenticeship offers an introduction to the fundamentals of legal practice and provides a combination of learning and working within one of our legal teams, to build your knowledge and the skills required to work as a Litigation Assistant at Kennedys.

In addition to a dedicated supervisor at Kennedys, you will have a tutor and skills coach at BPP, to ensure that you have all the support you need at work and with your studies. We offer a competitive salary (paying at minimum the UK Living wage both in and outside of London).

Once the two year paralegal apprenticeship has been completed, apprentices who would like to continue their learning may have the opportunity to join the Level 7 solicitor apprenticeship. This takes four years to complete and involves the completion of a (Hons) degree in legal practice and will lead to qualifying as a solicitor.

Applications for our 2021 paralegal apprenticeships will open in September 2020.
