Profile
We’re legal experts with a difference.
It’s in our DNA to value people for who they are and what they bring. We’re committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture where our people can flourish. We have a strong network to celebrate and support our colleagues, clients and communities covering sexuality, disability, age, gender, race, social background and culture.
We’re more than just a law firm – we’re a group of like-minded, friendly people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life’s ups and downs.
As well as offering a full-range of legal services to individuals and businesses, we also support people with their finances, wealth and asset management. We focus on what really matters; our clients, colleagues and communities.
We work with our clients, and take the time to understand what matters most to them. We call it ‘expert hand, human touch’.
For Business Legal Services our typical clients are drawn from a cross-section of growing businesses to large companies, and come from a range of sectors including technology, consumer, financial services, manufacturing, media and entertainment, real estate, and education.
The firm offers expertise in banking and finance, commercial litigation, corporate, commercial, employment, insolvency and real estate.
For Personal Legal Services, the firm remains one of the leading personal injury and medical negligence litigation practices in the UK. Irwin Mitchell covers all the key injury areas such as asbestos-related disease, serious injury, international travel litigation, medical negligence and product liability.
Within the Personal Legal Services training contract, Private Wealth offers a wide range of services for private clients including succession planning, tax, reputation protection, family, and probate administration. It also advises business owners and executives on their personal business wealth.
Training Contract
The firm’s training contracts allow you to see work covered within personal legal services (PLS) stream or business legal services (BLS) stream, with some trainees having access to experience both divisions where possible. You will undertake 4 x 6 month seats.
We are known for our Personal Injury work and within PLS most of the seats fall under this area and in some locations we also offer Private Wealth options.
Within BLS our teams work nationally across seven locations and each office offers different seat options dependent on department’s availability and business need.
Please see our online brochure for further details of which seats are available in which office for PLS and BLS.
Training contract opportunities can be found in the following locations.
The firm is looking for ambitious and well-motivated individuals who have a real commitment to the law and who can demonstrate a positive approach to their work. Irwin Mitchell recruits law and non-law graduates and views social ability as important as academic achievement.
Vacation Scheme
Each summer the firm runs a formal two week work placement which is a great way for you to gain a real insight into what life is like as a trainee at Irwin Mitchell. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in different areas of law. During your placement you will have the opportunity to attend client meetings, undertake real client work and understand our culture and way of working.
Each year, a large proportion of training contracts are offered to those who had undertaken a Legal Work Placement, so the firm encourages all those interested in joining to apply via this route.
Applications open on 1st November 2020 and close on 4th January 2021.
