Profile

Taylor Vinters is an international law firm supporting the businesses which drive the innovation economy, and the entrepreneurs and private wealth that underpin them.

Our practice is global, operating from innovation clusters in the UK, Asia and the US. With 28 partners and 80 lawyers across our offices in London, Cambridge, Oxford, New York and Singapore we help entrepreneurial clients make great things happen, whatever their size and sector. Our clients range from Fortune 500 technology multinationals through fast growth venture backed and owner managed businesses, to individuals driven by great ideas and a passion.

We are a full service law firm and our key practice areas are corporate, commercial technology, IP, brands, employment, commercial real estate, disputes and private wealth. We are also active investors in legal technology and artificial intelligence, which power our fast and cost-effective RAPID contract portfolio review service. Our portfolio structure allows us to support our clients with integrated legal, consulting and technology solutions – helping them manage risk, take informed decisions and leverage valuable networks. This is our value proposition.

Our ONE international counsel model sources expert, appropriate local counsel across every jurisdiction – all managed by us. This ensures our clients benefit from consistently high standards of intelligent, scalable global legal support, integrated as ONE service, with ONE primary advisor and ONE point of contact.

Training Contract

A training contract with us means you’ll benefit from the knowledge and advice of some of the brightest minds in the business, as you work alongside them and share their inspiration.

You’ll have responsibility for your own work, high levels of autonomy and regular client contact. As well as gaining experience of the law in action, you’ll see how we operate at Taylor Vinters, and enjoy the same support and friendliness you experienced when you first met us.

You’ll also discover why there’s more to the job than technical excellence. Communication and commercial awareness are vital; it’s important we understand our clients’ objectives, and explain why our solutions will work for them, in the way they feel most comfortable with. This approach of focus, collaboration and innovation is what drives our business and makes it so successful.

During your two year programme, you’ll typically complete four seats in different legal disciplines, in our Cambridge and London offices, to help you decide which aspects of the law interest you most. During your training contract, you’ll also complete your Professional Skills Course (PSC), which we’ll pay for.

If you’ve impressed us during your vacation scheme, you could have the opportunity to work with us as a paralegal before you begin your training contract. It’s a very useful head start to your legal career.

Vacation Scheme

The vacation scheme is a fantastic opportunity to get a first-hand experience of what it will be like to work at Taylor Vinters. It may only be a few days, but it will be an intense and exciting period of discovery – for you and for us. You’ll find out about the work we do, the type of clients we work with and most importantly, how we do it.

We’ll find out what interests and motivates you, and whether you’re a Taylor Vinters sort of person. We appreciate and nurture personalities and individual talent, yet we also look for people who share and contribute. We make great things happen when we collaborate, both with each other and with our clients.

It’s not all hard work: there’ll be social events too, where you can get to know us better. It’s a concentrated, stimulating couple of weeks, giving you a clear idea of our environment and opportunities.

We are currently finalising the dates and length of our vacation scheme in 2021. We expect it to last around three days and the dates will be in May, June and July (dates will be added to the website as soon as they are confirmed). You’ll spend time getting experience of the work we do and you’ll team up with our trainees, associates and partners to get hands-on experience.

We typically offer around 20 places each year, and hire trainees directly from our vacation schemes. To be considered you must be able to start a training contract within two years.

Salary & Benefits

We understand your studies require not just dedication but also money, so we’ll pay for you to complete your LPC at any BPP location (if you haven’t completed it already). Aside from this our standard benefit package includes a trainee starting salary of £28,000/£35,000 (Depending on location), a profit-related bonus scheme, 25 days holiday, holiday buy, a pension scheme, life insurance, income protection, private medical insurance, medical cash plan, season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, an employee referral scheme and access to a wide variety of wellbeing and social activities.

Requirements

We’re looking for innovative and entrepreneurial people who are brimming with enthusiasm and passion for what they do. You’ll need a pragmatic outlook and commercial awareness as our clients rely on our business brains as much as our legal expertise.

As a trainee, you represent our future. Naturally we want to see you succeed, so we’ll do all we can to help develop your career.

Your development programme will be tailored around your skills, interests and aspirations. You’ll experience real client work and responsibility from an early stage, because it’s the best way to learn and develop as a lawyer.

As you learn, you’ll benefit from the expert advice of some of the industry’s most forward thinking lawyers. You can join in our thriving, outside-work social life. Most valuable of all, you’ll have the chance to flourish and establish your career in an innovative, outstanding law firm.

Ideally, we look for trainees with good A-level grades of at least ABB and a minimum 2.1 in your undergraduate degree, or a minimum of a commendation if you’ve taken the GDL or LPC. However, all applications will be considered and if you have mitigating circumstances please include full details of these in your application form.

Apply

We only recruit trainees via our vacation scheme and the application process will open on 3 December. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and we encourage you to submit your application earlier to ensure you have the best chance of success.

After submitting your application it will be screened by a member of our Graduate Recruitment team. Successful applicants will be invited to complete our gamified assessment with Arctic Shores – don’t worry, no gaming experience is needed and it’s far more enjoyable than you might think. You will also get a profile with feedback following completion of the assessment.

Following the online assessment, we will review your results and shortlist candidates for an assessment centre.

We are currently finalising how our 2021 assessment centre will run, however we expect it will be totally virtual and comprise of a mix of written, group and interview based assessments. More details, including assessment centre dates, will be added to this page as soon as they are available.
